rang in the new year watching Wicked: For Good. why did that shit make me tear up a little?? I never watched the stage play so the plot was all a surprise to me. the message was deeper and darker than I thought it would be.
the color grading was grayish and low contrast. kinda like raw log footage and most noticeable in the outdoor scenes. but looks like the saturation/vibrance was bumped? I guess in real life the outside is more low contrast because of all the light. feels uncanny because there’s this grayish haze and the colors are still so vibrant, which implies that the already vibrant colors would be even more vibrant without the smokey haze
glinda is so interesting. so much cognitive dissonance. the most popular and privileged person in Oz. reprehensible passivity, but somewhat redeemed herself at the end. an agent of the state with the conflicting desire to be good
the way jonathan bailey went against the wizard and told him to get in the cage was so hot. I guess that partially explains why he’s People’s first openly gay Sexiest Man Alive. ariana’s microexpressions are so satisfying.
sad to see elphaba go in exile and written in history as the villain. elphie could have so easily been resentful of glinda, but she made sure glinda got (almost) everything she wanted. how much does the truth matter?
